The Dutch settlement at Table Bay, under the leadership of Jan van Riebeeck, was established in 1652. Its purpose was to supply fresh produce and meat to the fleets of the Dutch East India Company for their voyages between Europe and the spice islands of the East. Before long, South Africa’s oldest city came into being. In the early days sailors around the world knew the city as the “Tavern of the Seas”, and to this day Cape Town has maintained a reputation for friendly hospitality. With its Majestic Table Mountain backdrop, Cape Town is easily one of the most beautiful cities in the world. A harmonious blend of architectural styles reflects the tastes and dictates of the past – and today’s more functional requirements. Between the high- rise office blocks, Edwardian and Victorian buildings have meticulously been preserved. Narrow cobblestone streets and the strongly Islamic ambiance of the Bo-Kaap enhance the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city.

Victoria Falls – one of The Seven Natural Wonders of the World. At the age of 27, David Livingstone arrived in Africa. What did you do at the age of 27 – maybe you bought your first car, or put down payment on your first home? For Livingstone, it was the start of a great dream of finding out new lands.

Livingstone started his journey in Africa in 1849, and his goal was to navigate Africa’s rivers through what he termed the “highway to the Interior” – even though he would not live to see this realized. However, he was the first white man to discover the Smoke That Thunders (Mosi-O-Tunya) in 1855 which he renamed after the British Queen Victoria.

This went on to become one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and we now invite you on a journey that you will never again forget – through exploring the Zambezi River by means of canoe, raft or motor vessel, viewing the magnificent Victoria Falls Bridge from a train, or from being suspended on a cable across the Batoka Gorges, to riding an elephant, eating cultural and traditional food, visiting local people – basically exploring this Wonder and its region for the first time through your eyes as Livingstone once did. Enjoy your Journey!
