National Parks & Places of interest in Mozambique

Bazaruto Archipelago

Probably the most well known of all National Parks in Mozambique is the Bazaruto Archipelago. Beautiful stretches of white sandy beaches offer a great spot for snorkeling and diving. The coastal town of Vilanculos is the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago - a chain of four large islands: Bazaruto, Benguerra, Santa Isobel and Santa Carolina (formerly known as Paradise Island).

Strung out in the Indian Ocean, the two smaller islands are uninhabited, while the others have a few small villages scattered amongst wild orange and cashew nut trees. These are places to relax, to escape and to explore. A marine national park covers most of the archipelago, protecting the exquisite marine life in these turquoise seas.

Quirimbas Archipelago

The Quirimba National Park is made up of eleven islands of the Quirimba Archipelago situated in Mozambique’s northern seas. The park offers a diversity of areas, coral reefs, sea grass beds, mangroves, forests and mountains are all found here and they are home to many of the world's rarest species, including the dugong. Hammerhead sharks, sea turtles and dolphins can all be see in these rich waters, along with over 300 species of fish.

This is an isolated and remote area; it's probably the last stretch of East African coastline where the marine environments and beaches are ecologically pristine and largely unexplored. Lying just offshore and stretching for 200km, the Quirimbas Archipelago consists of 12 major islands; about 20 smaller, coralline outcrops; and endless sand-bar beaches. As a safeguard for the future, The Quirimbas National Park protects a large part of the archipelago's southern side.

I could not imagine a trip to Africa without you both, but then we have mightily spoiled. The places you have booked us into are unbelievable. Not only are they most luxurious and beautiful, but those associated with the "camps" are knowledgeable--fabulous guides--and well trained in the art of serving and caring for guests--excellent dining as well. I know that you have researched each site, usually having been there yourselves. Your services are soooo complete and personal with every detail attended to. We all loved the "flip" itinerary book you did this past trip. And Sid does the best job in arranging for sightings of ALL the animals many times. What's more, you make it all such fun!
